Chapter 9 “Protocol” (8/8)

Jerri enters the slave quarters to find Roxy sitting on the edge of the bath, lazily swishing her feet in the warm water. Relieved her friend is here, Jerri does her best conceal her condition. She stands up strait, puts on her best smile and futilely tries to put some cheer in her voice.

“Heya.”

Roxy looks sideways with an uneven smile and an eyebrow raised. She opens her mouth as if she’s going to give Jerri some of her usual friendly ribbing, obviously happy to see her friend again. The New Yorker’s face grows grim. Roxy springs up and rushes to Jerri, in an instant she can know that all is not well.

Jerri tries to shrug off Roxy’s obvious concern, but words just aren’t forming. She can only cast her eyes downward, so many emotions she’s swallowed over the past few days are rushing to the surface.

She can feel her friends eyes searching her as Roxy’s hands gently grabs her by the cheeks. The warm touch of the violinist’s calloused fingers bring a rush of comfort, relief and emotion to the beaten, but not broken woman.

Roxy cradles Jerri’s face with a firm and gentle hand.

“What the fuck did they do to you?”

Jerri wants to say ‘it’s nothing’ or ‘don’t worry about it’ or something in an attempt to keep strong, but she can’t, not right now. All she can do is press her face into the crook of Roxy’s neck and shoulder and feel the warm, safe and familiar embrace of her friend.

Now, Jerri allows herself to cry.

This chapter was a bit longer, since there tends to be a little break between chapters I didn't want to leave Jerri in her harrowing position. I do have the next three chapters planned out, but have yet to start them. I mentioned earlier that this episode was a little peak into the next chapter which will be titled "I'm Serious" and will be Jerri/Roxy focused. As usual, it should be about a week and a half.

I've realized that this story has gone over 60 (!?) episodes and I want to take a moment to thank all of you who are reading and enjoying. Your support, comments and interest in this little tale is so amazingly rewarding. I have a difficult time expressing how grateful I am. So, thank you!
